Workshop “Linkages between Actors in the Innovation System”

An international workshop «Linkages between Actors in the Innovation System» took place on the 13-15th of June 2012. Eminent researchers and leading experts in innovation studies from the UK, Norway and Sweden joined their colleagues from the HSE to discuss the recent developments in the field of science, technology and innovation.

The workshop was organized by the international research laboratory Economics of Innovation of the National Research University-Higher School of Economics (HSE).

Leonid Gokhberg (first vice-rector of the HSE and director of ISSEK) started the workshop by a presentation of activities and research at the HSE and the Institute of Statistical Studies and the Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK). Bruce Tether (University of Manchester) presented his studies on entrepreneurial actions and the emergence of new markets based on the analysis of service design consulting.

Konstantin Fursov and Vitaly Roud (ISSEK, HSE) introduced various empirical research projects conducted at the ISSEK. Marina Doroshenko (ISSEK, HSE) presented her research outcomes on the development of knowledge-intensive services in Russia. Stanislav Zaichenko (ISSEK, HSE) discussed the role of public research organizations in Russian innovation system.

Jan Fagerberg (University of Oslo) who is widely known for his contribution to the studies of linkages between innovation, technology diffusion and economic growth, highlighted his understanding of necessary conditions and factors of economic catch-up.

Vitaly Roud presented models of innovation behavior of Russian companies based on microdata studies. Thomas Gstraunthaler and Elena Vetchinkina (ISSEK, HSE) reported on the results of technology and innovation audit in large companies in energy sector and its impact on corporate strategies focused on sustainability issues. Maxim Kotsemir (ISSEK, HSE) discussed the results of quantitative analysis of growth dynamics in innovation systems as applied to the Russian case. Natalia Shmatko and Olga Shuvalova (ISSEK, HSE) introduced to the public their empirical studies of competencies and skills in the innovation system.

One of the most prominent scholars in the field of innovation policy studies with a broad international experience in policy advice, Charles Edquist (Lund University) concluded the very productive and vivid discussion session by his concluding presentation on systems of innovation and innovation policy.
